You need to get your BSN(4 year university degree) and at least 2 years of acute care nursing before you can apply to an Nurse Practitioner Programs California masters program(3 years of university). Nurse Practitioner Programs California are very competitive to get into.

Question: Do you recommend I take this nurse practitioner route?

According to my university, I have the option of doing this. I have a bachelor of philosophy and I’ve finished the prerequisites for the nursing program. here is their information:

If you have thought about becoming a nurse but didn’t want to spend many years in school, or have had difficulty gaining admission into one of the many impacted nursing programs, this full-time accelerated MSN degree program may be designed for you.

This MSN program will prepare you to be a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner. The Entry Level Master’s program is specifically designed for individuals with degrees in other fields who would now like to enter the nursing profession. The first 16 months of this full-time academic program will prepare you to take the National Council

Licensing Examination (NCLEX) to practice in California and to apply for a State of California Public Health Certificate.

The final 18 months of this academic program will prepare you to work as an advanced practice nurse. Is this a good route?

Well, do you want to be a nurse practitioner? Do you want to practice medicine? The direct entry programs (you only have 18 months at the NP level) are pretty short for learning all there is to know about medicine-you will come out really inexperienced-no work experience as a nurse either; which can be a disadvantage when looking for a position. See if you can talk to someone who completed the program and see how they feel about it versus a traditional route. I know traditionally trained RNs & NPs are not wild about these new direct entry programs.
